Karl Steen

📍 Ballito, South Africa
🏄 Shortboard Surfer | Competitive Athlete

"I’m a 22-year-old surfer originally from Durban, where I spent most of my childhood chasing waves between the piers after school. For the past four years, I’ve called Ballito home — and it’s easily my favourite place in the world.

I’ve been fortunate enough to reach multiple WSL Pro Junior finals, with a personal best of 2nd place at the Cape Town Pro. I’ve also made six SA Champs finals, placing second in 2019. Currently, I’m riding Pyzel surfboards and loving the process of experimenting with their high-performance shapes."

Nicolas Westman

📍 South Africa
🏄 Bodyboarder | Dropknee Specialist

"I’ve been bodyboarding for the past 16 years, and I still get that same rush every time I head into the ocean. It’s more than just a sport for me — it’s shaped who I am.

From deep friendships to unforgettable sessions, the ocean has given me so much. Every new break, every fresh wave still excites me.

My recent proud moments include placing 4th overall in the Pro Division at SA Champs 2022, and 3rd in the Dropknee Division at SA Champs 2023. The love I have for this lifestyle only grows stronger with time."

Ryan Bisset

📍 Global Nomad
🏄 Surf Veteran | Ocean Advocate

"I’ve been surfing for 37 years — since I was 10 — and it’s never stopped lighting me up. From day one, I’ve been driven to be the best surfer I can be, and that drive hasn’t changed.

Surfing has taken me across the globe, introduced me to world-class waves and even better people. It’s brought unmatched health, joy, and connection into my life.

I genuinely believe surfing is the greatest lifestyle a person could live — and I’m grateful every day to still be out there, chasing that next perfect wave."

Luke du Toit

📍 Ballito, South Africa
🏄 Performance Surfer | Saltwater Native

"Hi, I’m Luke du Toit, a 22-year-old surfer from Ballito, South Africa.

I’ve spent most of my life in the ocean, growing up on the wave-rich coastline of KwaZulu-Natal. Surfing has been my lifestyle growing up in such a surf central town such as Ballito.

I’ve been fortunate to work with amazing sponsors over the years such as Singlefin Surf Shop, Instinct, Analogy Surfboards, and Skatefit Apparel, brands that have supported my journey and helped me push my surfing to the next level.

Travel has been a huge part of my story. I’ve surfed some of the best waves on the planet, from Jeffreys Bay and Uluwatu, to the powerful peaks of Nias and the long, perfect walls of the Mentawai Islands. I’ve also explored lesser-known gems along the coastlines of Mozambique, always chasing new swells and new experiences.

In competition, I’ve represented at both national and international levels:
  • South African Champs – finished 28th overall
  • Nias Pro QS 5000 – a major step onto the international QS stage
  • Tofo Surf Series (Mozambique) – placed 5th overall

I’m currently focused on progressing through the competitive ranks, refining my performance in heavy surf, and continuing to represent my sponsors both in and out of the water. Whether I’m in a jersey or free surfing remote reef passes, I’m always driven by the same thing — the love of surfing and the places it takes me."
